Ildokwan Hapkido

Who we are

A school, not a gym.

A school of Korean Hapkido founded in South Korea in 1996, headquartered in Daegu since 1999 and present in Santiago, Chile and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Ildokwan has been active since 1996 as a school aimed at forming solid, safe and technically aware practitioners. Training is not limited to repeating movements: each technique is studied from its foundation, its context and its relationship with the rest of the system.

Learning is organized in Gup grades leading to 1st Dan, allowing the student to advance step by step, from the basics to a fuller understanding of Hapkido. No one rushes; everyone progresses.

The applicability of a technique depends on context: that is why it is studied with precision, judgment and relation to the rest of the system.

What we train

Ildokwan's Hapkido is a complete system. These are its components, present from the early grades and deepened along the way:

  • Basic stances 기본자세
  • Falls 낙법
  • Footwork 전환
  • Joint locks 관절기
  • Hosinsul 호신술
  • Hand strikes 권술
  • Kicks 발차기
  • Throws 유술
  • Groundwork 와술
  • Coordination and mobility 협응 · 유연성

Pedagogical approach

How we teach matters as much as what we teach. These principles order every class:

Clear progression

Each piece of content has its moment. It builds on what came before, without leaps.

Partner safety

The other is not a rival: they make learning possible. They are always cared for.

Technical correction

Precision before speed. Correct form holds up everything else.

Cultivating the art

We train the complete martial art: technique, body, discipline, judgment and continuity over time.

Calm and attention

Holding attention and calm is part of the training, not an extra.

Adaptable to age

Training adjusts to the age and condition of each practitioner.

No previous experience. The program begins at white belt and teaches the basics step by step. You train progressively, respecting each person's body and pace.
